A Vision for Cambridge: In Conversation with Peter Freeman
Peter Freeman shares how the Cambridge Growth Company aims to unlock sustainable and inclusive growth for the city’s future.
We were delighted to welcome Peter Freeman, Chairman of the Cambridge Growth Company, to Concilio’s Better Places podcast. Peter, best known for co-founding Argent and delivering the transformational King’s Cross redevelopment, now leads efforts to shape Cambridge’s future as part of a government-backed mission.

In the episode, Peter sets out a bold new vision: transforming Cambridge into a global exemplar of sustainable placemaking by 2050. While Cambridge is a world-leading centre of innovation and research, Peter highlights the pressing challenges holding the city back, particularly in transport, water, and power infrastructure.

The Growth Company’s strategy puts infrastructure first. Peter explains how their work will unlock large-scale, mixed-use developments that combine homes, jobs, schools, and green spaces, building cohesive communities rather than just housing estates. Backed by new data and an expert team, the Growth Company aims to de-risk development and attract long-term investment to the region.

But this vision goes beyond physical development. Peter emphasises that growth must be inclusive. Addressing inequality and improving access to jobs, training, and public transport will be central to the plan, ensuring all communities benefit from Cambridge’s success.
