We are pleased to share that our client, Jastar Capital, through its subsidiary Custom House City Limited, has submitted plans for the sensitive refurbishment of the Grade I listed Custom House on Lower Thames Street in the City of London.
Under the proposed plans, the historically significant building would be brought back into use as a new 179-bed hotel alongside a landscaped public quayside which will deliver an inclusive, south-facing amenity space for the City.
The plans include a new public ground-floor route through the former King’s Warehouse which will be brought to life by dynamic historic displays, a series of galleries and an exhibition/engagement space in the West Wing, and a curated historical library within the former Tide Waiter’s Room. A diverse food and beverage offer would be featured in the King’s Warehouse and the Long Room would become one of the best new event spaces in the City.
Concilio, led by Luke Tatton and Charlie Lovett has played a key role in engaging with local stakeholders and the local community, including the often ‘hard-to-reach’ groups who might not ordinarily engage with consultations. By focusing on open dialogue and collaboration, we have looked to communicate the positive and exciting benefits for everyone involved.
Over 100 visitors attended our second round of Custom House exhibitions, where they explored the proposals, talked with the project team, and toured parts of the building like the Long Room. Engaging social media, lively street stalls and roundtable discussions, have brought together a vibrant mix of voices, ensuring a truly diverse conversation around Custom House’s future.
