In September 2024, the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, announced plans to consult on the designation of a Mayoral Development Area (MDA) for Oxford Street, alongside the creation of a Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC) to help transform “the nation’s high street”.
The Oxford Street Development Corporation (OSDC) was formally established on 1 January 2026, with a clear remit to drive meaningful and coordinated change across the area. From April 2026, it is expected to assume full planning powers, including responsibility for a dedicated Planning Committee to determine planning applications within its boundary.
As the OSDC becomes fully operational, this page will be updated regularly as further details and decisions emerge, as we explore what this could mean for the future of Oxford Street.
